Protesters demonstrated Jan. 28 against Bank of America’s
attack on the working-class people of St.Louis. Many St. Louisans have been
victims of Bank of America’s relentless attack on people facing economic
hardships who can no longer afford to pay for their houses.
This act of greed was forcefully met by the people of the
city, led by Missourians for Reform and Empowerment.
Mary Boehm, a victim of the bank’s policies, spoke at the protest about her
experience with the brutality of Bank of America. She had applied for a loan
modification that would help her with her mortgage troubles. The bank said she
was eligible for this modification, but instead of getting a notice that
she had been accepted, she received a
foreclose notice. This is a perfect example of how big banks scam hard working
people. As the crisis continues, the bankers continue to make record profits, while
their victims are forced to figure out where they are going to live.
The People’s Tribunal calls for the greedy bankers to be
brought to justice. Protesters attempted to storm the office of Bank of America
to let them know they are being placed on trial for an economic crime against
humanity, but were blocked by the police.
Protesters might not have been able to enter Bank of America, but continued their protest in the streets,
chanting “Bailout no banks, close up big banks” and “Who we are, the mighty,
mighty people.” Protesters then stormed the office of the Attorney General
demanding he put the criminal bankers in jail and delivered a letter from the
People’s Tribunal.
The mortgage crisis is a perfect example of why capitalism needs to be
overturned and a new society created where peoples’ needs come first.
