Nationwide coalition announces April 5 march on Washington for Palestine: Stop the genocide! Arms embargo now!

In response to the resumption of Israel’s full scale war against Gaza and the Trump administration’s attacks on freedom of speech and political dissent, a broad coalition of pro-Palestine organizations across the country are organizing a march on Washington on April 5. The demonstration will demand an immediate ceasefire and an arms embargo that ends the massive U.S. weapons shipments that make Israel’s assault possible, as well as an immediate end to the Trump attacks on students, immigrants, and activists – including Mahmoud Khalil.

Initial sponsoring organizations of the march are: Palestinian Youth Movement; The People’s Forum; ANSWER Coalition; American Muslims for Palestine; Democratic Socialists of America; Jewish Voice for Peace; U.S. Palestinian Community Network; U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights; Palestinian Feminist Collective; AROC Action; Al-Awda.

Layan Fuleihan, Education Director of The People’s Forum, said, “For over 16 months, Gaza has endured a brutal, ongoing genocide carried out by Israel with the full backing and support of the US government. Israel continued to violate the terms of the ceasefire reached on January 19th, breaking it over 980 times before resuming all out war on March 17. The movement against genocide in North America has risen time and time again in support of Gaza and will not rest now.”

Taher Dahleh of the Palestinian Youth Movement said, “On Monday March 17th, Israel resumed its genocidal war on the people of Gaza by carrying out more than one hundred air strikes in less than 10 minutes, martyring over 400 Palestinians 174 of them children. This genocide has been conducted in complete coordinate with the US government, as evidenced by the Trump administrations brutal repression of Mahmoud Khalil and the movement for Palestine more broadly. We will be in DC to demand an urgently needed total arms embargo on Israel, which is the only reality capable of stoping this genocide.”

Brian Becker, ANSWER Coalition National Director, said, “The Trump administration’s crackdown on free speech makes it even more urgent to take to the streets in protest. By arresting and persecuting activists like Mahmoud Khalil, Trump wants to set a precedent that any opposition to his unjust policies is criminal. We will not back down from our right to protest genocide.”

Manolo De los Santos, Executive Director of The People’s Forum, said, “While Donald Trump is slashing the most essential social programs working people rely on, he has no problem spending billions of dollars to arm Israel to advance his genocidal project of expelling Palestinians from Gaza to make room for a luxury real estate development. On April 5, we will converge to demand an arms embargo and an end to the genocide now!”
