The following report was received from a participant in the Verrazano Bridge action.
We are a group of 30 protesters of all levels of experience who blocked off the Verrazano bridge for seven minutes this morning (Dec. 8). Seven minutes for the seven minutes that Daniel Pantaleo choked Eric Garner to death as he cried out that he couldn’t breathe.
We targeted the Verrazano bridge as it is the main artery into and out of Staten Island – the route that most cops take to get into our neighborhoods and terrorize our communities every day. We are tired of police harassing and brutalizing our sons, our brothers, and our husbands and want to send a clear message to the NYPD and the world that civil disobedience will not end until police brutality ends.
