Protest in Columbus, Ohio, supports the Palestinian struggle

On Feb. 21, activists gathered on the campus of Ohio State University to protest in support of Palestine marking the first anniversary of the Israeli attack on Gaza. The demonstration was organized by the Committee for Justice in Palestine at the university.

The event had been promoted at the first meeting of the Columbus branch of the ANSWER (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism) Coalition several weeks before.

The Israeli attack was a three-week bombardment and incursion that ensued after Palestinian resistance forces responded to Israel’s violation of a ceasefire. Over 1,400 Palestinians were killed and tens of thousands were left homeless, without electricity, running water and food.

In Gaza, the Israeli forces destroyed hospitals and schools in a premeditated act of aggression against the Palestinian people.

Volunteers from the ANSWER Coalition and the Party for Socialism and Liberation were in attendance. Among them was the PSL’s candidate for Ohio state representative (District 22), Corey Ansel. Ansel and volunteers from his campaign distributed flyers and materials about the socialist campaign.

“It really doesn’t matter what district you live in,” Ansel said to demonstrators. “The struggle for justice in Ohio, Palestine and across the globe is in no way separate. The struggle for justice is international.”
