Israel launched a missile attack against Gaza City in the
early morning of April 2. The attack, conducted by aircraft firing at least
seven missiles has left three children hospitalized. The children, ages two to
11, were injured by flying glass and debris.
The raid occurred amidst escalating Israeli aggression
against the occupied territories. On March 26, an Israeli military penetration
into Gaza resulted in the deaths of two Palestinians and two Israeli soldiers.
The next week, Israeli soldiers fired on protesters at the border of the
blockaded region and killed a teenager.
The Israeli military is claiming that the assault is in
retaliation for one homemade rocket that was fired from Gaza on April 1. There
were no injuries resulting from that alleged attack.
Ismail Haniyeh, the Hamas prime minister, issued a statement
that Hamas had contacted the other Palestinian factions in Gaza to confirm
support for the “internal consensus,” meaning a continued commitment to the
truce.
