On October 28 FBI Director James Comey announced to Congress that the department would continue its investigation into emails obtained from a private server used by Hillary Clinton while she served as Secretary of State under President Obama.
New evidence was found in an unrelated case involving former New York State Congressman Anthony Weiner exchanging sexually explicit text messages with a 15-year-old. A seized laptop from the case revealed 650,000 emails of both Weiner and his wife/top Clinton aide, Huma Abedin, of which thousands potentially involve the same private server used by Clinton.
After praising James Comey in July for dismissing recommendations for the criminal prosecution of Clinton, Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid now blasted the FBI director for violating the 1939 Hatch Act, which prohibits executive branch employees of the federal government from certain political activity.
Reid referenced a March memo from the Deputy Attorney General that “defines the political activity prohibited under the Hatch Act as ‘activity directed towards the success or failure of a political party, candidate for partisan political office, or partisan political group.’” From this memo, Reid claimed that Comey and the FBI are maintaining “a clear double-standard” for following the new information on Clinton while allegedly withholding information tying Trump to the Russian government.
Months-long investigations by the FBI into Russian involvement in the U.S. elections have been unable to find “any conclusive or direct link between Mr. Trump and the Russian government”(New York Times.)
The FBI announcement has reinvigorated the anti-Russian hysteria of the Clinton campaign, as Democratic Party leaders desperately attempt to delegitimize Wikileaks revelations about Clinton’s record as a two-faced war monger and shill for Wall Street’s biggest banks.
In his letter, Reid claimed the Russian government is “a foreign interest openly hostile to the United States, that praises Trump at every opportunity,” proclaiming that “there is no danger to American interests” by disclosing these links.
“American interests” are exactly the reasons behind this hyper-vilification. Falsely labeling Russia as an imminent threat serves the purpose of deflecting blame for the murderous actions of the U.S. government under the leadership of the Democratic Party. It can also be seen as a nod from Clinton to war profiteers that business-as-usual will continue in the imperial drive against real and imagined challenges to U.S. global hegemony.
President Obama, who appointed Comey (a Republican) as FBI director in 2013, joined Reid in condemning the investigations as “innuendo.” Obama is currently on the campaign trail gathering support for Clinton, who he accurately claims has the most experience to take over his role as CEO of the U.S. empire.
In a speech on Wednesday at the University of North Carolina, Obama informed the crowd that “the fate of the world was teetering” on the results of this election.
Obama’s remarks mirror that of the Clinton campaign in presenting a Trump presidency as a catastrophic scenario that can be remedied with a Clinton victory. Along those same lines, a newly-released campaign ad depicts a former Nuclear Missile Launch Officer saying how scared he is of a President Trump with nuclear weapons.
The ad fails to mention, however, the fact that just this year President Obama approved a trillion dollars to be allocated to upgrade the nuclear weapons stockpile of the U.S. to become more “precise” and allegedly capable of damage-control, in other words, to become more usable.
While Donald Trump is no doubt a racist capitalist bigot who has green-lighted white nationalist and fascist elements in the country, Hillary Clinton has a demonstrated track-record of backing and orchestrating terror campaigns abroad (Libya, Iraq, Syria, etc.) and a willingness to take the U.S. towards a direct confrontation with the world’s only competing nuclear power. This is not a democratic election. This is a trap.
