In a dramatic protest, protesters carried stretchers representing the dead bodies of Palestinian children in a funeral march through downtown Seattle.
The group Voices for Palestine has organized at least one protest a week for more than a month. Today’s action brought out many who were new to demonstrating, as well as veteran activists. Visible among the crowd were many Palestinians and Arab-Americans, Muslim and Jews as well as others outraged with the situation. Liberation News spoke with a woman who Googled “Seattle protests” and came out for the first time, feeling she “just had to do something.”
Liberation also interviewed Cynthia, a Mohawk woman who was drumming and had a sign reading “Palestinians R Indigenous.” She explained, “The situation of Palestinians aligns with our situation as Native Indians. We are indigenous, Palestinians are indigenous. Mohawks stand with Palestine and our hearts are with them. “
