Chicago State University students, alumni, professors and supporters marched in Chicago to save their school. Right now students and staff are facing the possibility of public higher education being shut down due to Gov. Rauner’s refusal to pass the budget.
Derrick Martin, Senior and student at CSU, stated,“When politicians play political chess they aren’t
just withholding funds, they are withholding lives and futures.” Many attendees pointed to the fact that state legislators are not doing their job and therefore should not be in the position to decide the future of students in Illinois.
The march started at the Thompson Center and ended at Gov. Rauner’s Chicago office in the loop. Marchers chanted “Black education is good for our health, save CSU, budget or else!” and “Save CSU!” Later this month students from Chicago are taking their voices to Springfield to demand an end to the attacks on education for all Chicago universities.
