The Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) condemns in the harshest terms the latest repression targeting the Sudanese Communist Party (SCP) and its political bureau member comrade Amal El Zein. Comrade El Zein was arrested by the Sudanese military on June 23rd and is being held in an undisclosed location without her family or lawyers being able to visit her.

As the Party for Socialism and Liberation, we stand in full solidarity with the people of Sudan who have been valiantly struggling for full democratic reforms and a civilian form of government since 2018, despite the terrible violence and repression at the hands of the Sudanese military, whether it is the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) or the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), two factions who have continued to repress the people of Sudan, following the ousting of Omar al-Bashier in April 2019.

SCP has played and continues to play a crucial and leading role in the movement for social and democratic rights since its start in 2018. Following the start of the civil war triggered by the conflict between SAF and RSF in 2023, the attacks and repression on SCP have escalated. We reiterate our full solidarity with the comrades in SCP and demand that comrade Amal El Zein be released immediately.

Free comrade Amal El Zein!

Long live the Sudanese Communist Party!
