Podesta emails reveal corruption, exploitation and lies

As Wikileaks exposes thousands of hacked emails belonging to John Podesta, chairman of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, the attempts to divert attention away from the corruption exposed are in full swing.

Articles are being churned out questioning the emails’ authenticity or, as U.S. politicians are oft wont to do when faced with leaks or whistleblowers, blaming Russia. Newspapers such as the New York Times – which Clinton’s communications director Jennifer Palmieri described as “our press” [Liberation emphasis] in one email – are among those attempting to focus the national dialogue on the source of the emails rather than the actual content. This makes sense, considering the amount of egg these emails have put on the faces of the Clinton campaign and the billionaires, politicians, and media giants working behind and for it.

The New York Times isn’t the only news outlet that seems to “belong” to the Clinton campaign, as Chief Political Correspondent for Politico, Glenn Thrush, sent Podesta an email containing soon-to-be-published articles asking him to “tell me if I f*cked anything up,” confessing to “hav[ing] become a hack” and begging Podesta not to “tell anyone I did this.”

Brent Budowsky, columnist for the Hill, also reached out to Podesta about a piece he’d written which he boasted was “positive, carefully written, and designed to give [Clinton] some cover with liberals.”

Besides the puppeteering of the media that many have long suspected of the Clinton campaign, leaked emails also prove the presidential candidate’s dishonesty and ulterior motives, including Clinton herself admitting in her Wall Street Speeches that she has “both a public and private opinion” on political issues. Indeed she does.

In a transcript from a speech Clinton made to the North America’s Building Trades Unions, Clinton claims, “[M]y view is I want to defend natural gas. I want to defend repairing and building the pipelines we need to fuel our economy. I want to defend fracking under the right circumstances,” later saying that environmentalists need to “get a life.” This is a very different tone than that taken on Hillary Clinton’s campaign website, in which she promises to make the United States “the world’s clean energy superpower.”

Similar to the hypocrisy apparent in Clinton’s stance on the environment is her campaign’s lip service to the rights of African Americans, immigrants, and other oppressed groups. Leaked emails include one sent from the account [email protected] to Podesta as well as several media staffers at Politico and the Huffington Post, describing “Muslims, blacks, and Roma” as “professional never-do-wells” who “fare badly almost irrespective of circumstances,” exemplifying a campaign that offers false hope to the oppressed while insulting and condescending them behind closed doors.

Hillary Clinton is the personification of politics in the capitalist system: a system where the richest members of society take precedence over the needs of everyday people, who Podesta wrote in one email that Clinton “has begun to hate.”

Podesta was sent an email by Bill Ivey of Global Corporate Strategies, in which he describes the Democratic Party’s strategy as being to “in general conspire to produce an unaware and compliant citizenry,” and worries that, while “the unawareness [of the masses] remains strong, […] compliance is obviously fading rapidly. This problem demands some serious, serious thinking.” This sounds like the talk not of staff working for a campaign in a fair and democratic election, but masters plotting to keep their citizenry in line and in the dark.

Capitalism is a system of minority rule, where consent is manufactured by purposely lying to the masses and keeping careful control over the things they read, and staff members are working round-the-clock to sell them a fable of freedom and democracy – by polishing the persona of a corrupt politician.

Perhaps former Clinton aide Doug Band said it best in an email complaining about Clinton’s daughter Chelsea, claiming the “apple doesn’t fall far,” because the whole family is likely to give you “a kiss on the cheek while […] sticking a knife in the back, and front.”

Meanwhile, the Party for Socialism and Liberation’s presidential candidate, Gloria La Riva, is a candidate who stands on the principles of honesty, equality and revolution for the working class. On November 8, vote against both of the oppressive, lying, racist parties – vote socialist!
