On July 12, as many as 500 protesters massed at Seattle’s downtown Westlake Park to protest the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people. Demonstrators lined both sides of Pine St. and chanted militantly: “Free Free Palestine!” “When people are occupied, resistance is justified!”
Passing cars honked in support of the spirited show of solidarity. Many families came out with their teens and children; the majority of participants were Arab and Muslim youth. Their energy and enthusiasm was particularly remarkable given that most of them were fasting for Ramadan and the temperature was around 90 F.
After almost two hours of chanting and waving signs, the protesters marched around the block several times, and vowed that they would return the following Saturday.
