Outside Trump Hotel: Building a wall against racism and bigotry

The following is reposted from the website of the ANSWER Coalition.

On Monday, Sept. 12, protesters from a wide range of communities united outside of the new Trump hotel in Washington D.C. to stand up to bigotry and exploitation. Demonstrators were outraged at the sweetheart deal given to Trump at such a historic building in such a historic area of the country’s capitol. From 7:00 a.m. to well past 7:00 p.m., people gathered to “Build a Wall Against Racism and Bigotry”.

While Trump spreads hatred to protect the system, the demonstration against his hotel was an impressive display of unity. Representatives from a wide variety of struggles – from the labor movement to immigrant rights to the struggle against Islamophobia, Black Lives Matter and more – spoke at the marathon rally to express their determination in the face of the growing far right.

The protest was initiated by the ANSWER Coalition and was endorsed by many unions and progressive organizations, including: Washington Teachers’ Union, Local 6; AFSCME District Council 20; AFSCME, Local 2401; International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 58; United Food and Commercial Workers, Local 400; ONE DC; Popular Resistance; Stop Police Terror Project DC; Democracy Spring; CODEPINK; Rhizome DC; Latin American and Caribbean Action Network (LACAN); Queers Without Borders; Party for Socialism and Liberation; and more.

Below are video and photos from the action.
