On March 19, hundreds participated in a rally denouncing the recent U.S. sanctions against Venezuela in Damascus, Syria. Held in front of the embassy of Venezuela, rally speakers emphasized that the people of Syria and Venezuela are both waging a similar anti-imperialist struggle against U.S. imperialism and that the people of Syria stand in full solidarity with the government and people of Venezuela in their fight against the latest U.S. aggression towards Venezuela. They denounced the recent sanctions imposed by the U.S. against Venezuela. The crowd chanted the slogans “Long live Syria and Venezuela, the people of Syria and Venezuela are one!”
The participants also voiced their appreciation for the “honest, heroic position” of the government of Venezuela as both President Chavez and later President Maduro have consistently stood by the people of Syria in their fight against the terror unleashed by the armed reactionary groups in the destructive civil war stoked by U.S. imperialism and its regional reactionary allies, namely the monarchies of Saudi Arabia and Qatar and the AKP (Justice and Development Party) government of Turkey. Venezuelan Ambassador to Syria Imad Saab also spoke at the event, expressing his gratitude to the people of Syria for their support, adding that he was confident that both the people of Syria and Venezuela will continue to resist U.S. imperialism.
All progressives and revolutionaries should salute both the people of Syria and Venezuela in their heroic struggle and resistance against U.S. imperialism. The path to true solidarity with the oppressed people in the rest of the world passes through organizing a mass, militant and powerful anti-imperialist movement here at home against all forms of U.S. imperialist aggression abroad, from economic sanctions to military interventions and wars. With that in mind, we urge our readers and followers to join us.
U.S. hands off Syria! U.S hands of Venezuela!
