June 5–Demonstrators and residents of Tent City, an encampment of homeless workers at Cedar Bridge Ave. and South Clover St. in Lakewood, NJ, for the past seven years, is calling for the protest to continue despite the bulldozing of residents tents.
Ocean County does not have a shelter system for the homeless.
Demonstrators are demanding that money for cops and legal harassment of homeless at Tent City be used instead for a shelter system to house the homeless.
“They could have taken all the legal fees they have spent of expensive lawyers and the cops coming to harass us every day to build a shelter,“ said Pastor Steve Bingham who has been supporting the residents of Tent City the last seven years.
