Israel threatens to demolish Palestinian solar panels

Israeli authorities are threatening to demolish solar panels and wind turbines that provide energy to remote Palestinian communities in Area C of the West Bank. This has caused diplomatic troubles for the U.S.-backed apartheid state because the turbines and solar panels were installed with German funding.

Those who will be most harmed by the demolition are the poorest of the area, primarily rural shepherds, for whom the panels have improved quality of life. Similarly, Israel recently demolished a Polish-funded well in the Palestinian village of al-Thala, drawing disapproval from the Polish government. Israel claims the foreign-funded infrastructure was built illegally and without permit.

Last year, Israel demolished over 600 Palestinian structures in the West Bank, including more than 200 homes. This is a 50 percent increase from 2010.

The U.N. has reported that it is nearly impossible for Palestinians to get building permits for their own land, which further exposes the imperialist and colonialist nature of the Israeli state.
