Above: Glenn Beck shows a clip of Eugene Puryear speaking at the PSL’s National Conference on Socialism 2010. Here’s what Beck said about the PSL on his show: “There is another piece of the perfect storm. This is what is happening to our country. … But there is another piece because this really is—this is—this is the enemy within. … “More of these like-minded people showed up at a convention in L.A. earlier this month. It was the Party for Socialism and Liberation conference. … Let me show you the highlights. Listen.” Beck then played video clips of PSL members speaking at the National Conference on Socialism, which drew over 500 people in Los Angeles, including: Eugene Puryear: “From the south, into the trailer parks, the ghettos, the barrios and prisons, and anywhere workers are and organize and to unite based on their class interest and overthrow the capitalist class.” Support the PSL and help defeat the real enemy—capitalism. Clearly, we’re doing something right. The menace of a growing socialist party in the United States has caused right-wing pundit Glenn Beck and his co-thinkers to take notice.
On Nov. 30, Beck ranted against the Party for Socialism and Liberation on his Fox News show. He played clips of PSL members speaking at the National Conference on Socialism and called the PSL “the enemy within.” The next day on the O’Reilly factor, Beck warned about the PSL’s capacity to organize people in support of socialism.
Beck is a mouthpiece for the extreme right. He knows that capitalism is driving working people to fight, that the PSL is at the forefront of this struggle against the system. That’s why he’s trying to demonize us.
Every day, PSL members work tirelessly to organize workers and poor people, students and others. We fight to end exploitation, racism and all forms of oppression. We’re in the streets, neighborhoods, schools and everywhere that people are struggling for justice and equality.
The PSL is an “enemy” only to Wall Street, Big Oil, people like Beck and the rotten system they defend. The true enemy of all working and poor people is the capitalist system itself.
In struggle,
Gloria La Riva and Eugene Puryear
