On June 20, over 100 people came out to an emergency protest in Chicago against U.S. military intervention in Iraq.
Protesters chanted, “Hands Off Iraq! Iraq for Iraqis” and listened to speakers from a number of antiwar organizations. Placards at the protest read, “No New U.S. War on Iraq,” and “Money for Jobs, Not War!”
Held on Michigan Ave. near a busy shopping district, the protest was greeted enthusiastically by the majority of people who walked by the action. Many stopped to chant with the protesters or thank us for taking a stand against what would be a third U.S. war on Iraq. The people of the United States and the world will not sit on the sidelines and allow Washington and the Pentagon to get away with yet another war for dominance in the Middle East.
The protest was initiated by ANSWER Chicago and sponsored by Antiwar Committee Chicago, Chicago Area
CodePINK, Gay Liberation Network, Chicago World Can’t Wait, Pakistan Federation of America and Chicago Area Peace Action. Members of Veterans for Peace also joined the protest.
