As Greek workers called for mass protests and general strikes to oppose the neo-colonial austerity measures imposed on Greece by Germany and the EU, protesters in Chicago held a rally on July 14 to say, “No!” to the war on Greek workers and youth.
At the rally, Greek americans, teachers and activists spoke about the great importance of international solidarity with Greek workers. Speakers urged the people of the world to come together to reject the rule of the big banks that is such a monstrous threat to people in poorer European countries and the world.
Chicago activist Stavroula, one of the co-conveners of the rally and a Greek american, urged her sisters and brothers in Greece to continue fighting. She said, “We have them outnumbered. And the strength of the human spirit cannot be bled dry. And we will not stop until justice is served.”
The rally ended with a strong, united chant: “From Chicago to Greece: No Justice, No Peace!”
