More than 1,000
students in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, took to the streets in protest on
Nov. 20, blocking the road to Kabul. This demonstration was sparked
when the Loya Jirga,
or Grand Assembly, endorsed a resolution that called for U.S. forces
to remain in the country beyond the scheduled “transfer of
authority” in 2014.
The Loya Jirga
supported conditions proposed by Afghan puppet leader Hamid Karzai,
such as the end of night raids by NATO troops and Afghan authority
over detainees.
However, the U.S. has found these conditions to be unacceptable.
The protesters stated their opposition to any agreement that would
allow American soldiers to remain after 2014.
Afghan and U.S.
officials are planning for the continued presence of U.S. troops to
train Afghan soldiers to suppress any resistance to the puppet
regime.
If peace and
stability are to be restored in Afghanistan, the occupation by
Western militaries must end immediately and the people’s right to
self-determination must be recognized.
