St. Louis man dies in custody

On
June 3 at 9:15 p.m., inmate Scott Perry was pronounced dead at St.
Louis University Hospital. The events surrounding his death are
suspicious, but one thing is clear. As his sister, Tiffany Perry,
said, “He
would be alive today if they [the St. Louis jail authorities] had
taken him to the hospital sooner.”

Scott
Perry was a victim of drug use. He was caught using heroin and sent
to a detox program at the jail. He was due in court the day of his
death but never showed. The court told his attorney he was too sick
to leave jail.

According
to official reports, an officer checked in on him at 7 p.m. and he
was fine. A half hour later, Perry was unresponsive and was taken to
the hospital. The medical examiner has since announced that he died
of a ruptured ulcer.

After
his death, the justice center called the family, to tell them that
their loved one had been sent to the hospital and had died because of
“trauma.” The victim’s family has not been allowed to see his
body, and the medical examiner already did an autopsy without the
family’s permission.

On
June 8,family
members and supporters held a rally outside the jail demanding
answers about the cause of death and events surrounding his death.
The Perry family demands justice and answers to what happened to
their loved one. There must be justice for the Perry family now!
