People in Baltimore braved bitter cold weather to demand justice for
Sean Gamble, who was shot to death by Baltimore City Police. Gathering at District
Court of Maryland Jan. 22, the crowd of approximately 60 friends, relatives and
community activists marched to Baltimore City Hall, where a rally took place.
Gamble, 22, was killed Jan. 9 when Baltimore police fired 41 bullets
into a crowd outside a club. Several other people were injured by gunshots, and
an undercover officer involved in the incident was also killed by “friendly
fire.” All of the civilian victims were unarmed; only the cops at the scene had
weapons of any kind. The demonstrators at City Hall demanded that the city
bring to justice the cops who recklessly took the Gamble’s life.
Gamble was the father of a young child and was engaged to be married later this
year.
“We’re here because we have no faith in the Baltimore Police Department
or with (Baltimore Mayor) Stephanie Rawlings-Blake”, said Rhonda Nelson-Boylin,
one of many people at the rally who said that they would keep protesting until
the city officials take action. “We will not be silent or give up,” said
another protester, Nadine Williams-Holmes. “Hear us Baltimore, we will not be
moved!”
