On March 31, 1,000 people took to the streets of San Francisco in commemoration of the life and legacy of Cesar Chavéz. Union members, families and community members vibrantly marched through the Mission district led by Atzlan Dancers and youth from local elementary schools. The people chanted for justice, amnesty and for the rights of all workers.
Cesar Estrada Chavéz, born March 31, 1927, is celebrated each for his dedication and sacrifice to the struggle for justice and equality. His experiences as a Mexican American farm worker in a system deeply entrenched with racism and exploitation led him to become a powerful labor leader for decades in the United States.
