White House suppresses global warming testimony

On Oct. 23, Dr. Julie Gerberding, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director, testified on the impact of climate change on health in a Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Hearing. Before she spoke, the White House severely edited her talk down from 14 pages to four.

A CDC official said, “It was eviscerated.” The Bush administration purposefully removed science-based references to the potential increased health risks associated with global warming.

According to the CDC, the list of potential health risks include: heat stress, heart failure, increased sever weather injuries and deaths, respiratory problems, an increase in waterborne diseases, increases in other diseases like malaria, and mental health problems.
