U.S. warships stationed off the coast of Lebanon

The U.S. Navy has deployed the USS Cole warship and two support ships to the eastern Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Lebanon. Six more ships will soon be joining the guided missile destroyer.


Hezbollah has denounced the presence of the war ships as a move to create instability in the region and threaten Lebanon’s sovereignty. A Hezbollah spokesperson said their movement will not be intimidated or halted by the intrusive U.S. military presence.


Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said that the true intention of U.S. military is to distract the world from the criminal massacre that is currently happening in Gaza and allow Israel to complete its plan of genocide on the Palestinian people.


The United States recently imposed stricter economic sanctions on Syria. Lebanese elections scheduled for March 11 will pit pro-western forces that have cooperated with imperialism against political organizations, including Hezbollah, that are fighting for an independent Lebanon.
