U.S. blocks websites related to Cuba

Bush announced on March 7 that he will continue the U.S. blockade on Cuba. The blockade was put in place in 1962, shortly after the overthrow of U.S.-backed dictator Fulgencio Batista. The blockade has cost the Cuban people $90 billion in lost trade over that period and resulted in tremendous deprivation and hardship for the island.

Recently, it was made public that the U.S. Department of State has blocked over 500 websites and almost 4,000 domain names linked to Cuba to control and limit access. The owners of the websites were not notified and have no way to appeal.

In November 2007, 184 members of the U.N. General Assembly voted to end the unjust U.S. embargo on Cuba. The Bush administration decided to intensify restrictions and continues to spend millions trying to return Cuba to its former colonial status.
