An article appearing in The Nation, recently reported the story of a 42-year-old paramedic employed by defense contractor KBR—formerly a Halliburton subsidiary known as Kellogg, Brown & Root—sexually assaulted while stationed in southern Iraq.
The woman, who did not reveal her name, was drugged and violently raped by a U.S. soldier and a fellow employee. KBR supervisors ordered her not to speak about the incident.
KBR refused her transfer request, forcing her to work with and medically treat the men who had raped her. She has had her computer confiscated and been pressured to sign contracts binding her to privacy. While her rapists moved about freely, she’s been forced to walk with escorts.
This is not an isolated incident. Jamie Leigh Jones, who was gang raped by KBR and Halliburton employees in 2005, has since started a support network that has found over 40 other women who were assaulted while employed by defense contractors.
