Hunger in Ethiopia affecting all ages

As the global food crisis continues to spread, sectors of the population in Ethiopia are being devastated by starvation and malnutrition.

Four aid groups working in Ethiopia have noted a drastic increase in malnutrition among adults and older children. Starvation is plaguing primarily the young and elderly.

Drought and famine are being blamed for the rise in hunger, but at the core of the crisis are the soaring cost of foodstuffs and the criminal increase in fuel prices. People are going hungry not only in Ethiopia, but across the world. Millions have taken to the streets to demand food for their families and communities.

The U.S. government pays farmers to not grow food, and farmers let unsold crops rot rather than give them away to those in need. In the meantime, estimates indicate that more than 1 billion people will go hungry this year.
