A recent poll conducted in Ohio and Florida shows that one in four people polled are having trouble paying their medical bills. It also shows people are cutting back on medical tests and procedures due to costs. The poll was done by the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Harvard School of Public Health Foundation for National Public Radio.
In Florida, 30 percent of those polled said they had put off needed medical procedures, and 41 percent said they had skipped dental care because of the costs. Additionally, 28 percent indicated that they had ignored a doctor’s advice to have a medical procedure or test. The figure is 11 percentage points higher than a poll taken a year ago.
The study also showed that about 25 percent of those polled had chosen not to fill prescriptions and 20 percent had cut pills in half or skipped doses in order to save money.
