On May 22, over 75 people came out in the middle of the workday to counter-protest an anti-choice and anti-LGBT march and rally in Chicago.

Members of the Party for Socialism and Liberation, the Gay Liberation Network and several other progressive groups helped organize the counter-protest to fight against bigotry and oppression. Banners and signs advocating equal rights for women and the LGBT community lined the sidewalk across from the rally.
At the opening rally, the progressive counter-protesters’ chants were louder than that of the right-wing group across the street and reverberated off the walls of downtown structures, creating a much-needed voice of opposition. The counter-protesters marched across the street from the bigoted gathering the entire length of the march route.
Loud chants such as “Our body, our choice!” and “Same-Sex marriage rights now!” helped make the counter-protest a great success and sent a clear message that as long as equal rights for all have not been won, the people will take to the streets to oppose oppression against Women and LGBT people.
