Canada sends Afghan children to abusive prison

Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan captured children suspected of working with the Taliban and turned them over to an Afghan security unit known to have abused prisoners, according to a Nov. 28 report.

Defense Department documents state that since 2006, Canadian troops have transferred captured children to a special wing in Kandahar’s Sarpoza prison, which is run by the Afghan National Directorate of Security.

A Canadian diplomat said last year that he sent reports of NDS abusing prisoners in 2006.

A briefing document sent to Defense Minister Peter MacKay said that the Afghan authorities are now sending child detainees to a different juvenile rehabilitation center. The document also said that children had been in Canadian Forces custody for a “significant period” of time, but the exact amount was removed.

This comes as no surprise. Canada is a known imperialist ally of the United States, and this shows that all imperialist countries have the same barbaric agenda.
