Carlos Alvarez is the Peace and Freedom candidate running for Calif. Governor. He is also a member of the Party for Socialism and Liberation.
The Carlos Alvarez Campaign for Governor denounces all attempts to empower local police with the ability to do anything regarding immigration, including assisting federal authorities in racist raids, detentions and deportations of undocumented workers.
Citing the most recent example of this type of policy, Alvarez said, “The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has extended a heinous policy of including L.A. County Sheriffs in a collaborative effort with federal immigration forces in the deportation of undocumented workers held in county jails. This policy in only four years has lead to the illegal processing of 52,000 workers suspected of being undocumented and is responsible for the deportation of 20,000 people.
“This is not an isolated policy. There have been checkpoints in other counties aimed at attacking immigrants; there are reactionary laws against day laborers popping up throughout the state; and there is a general xenophobic hysteria being whipped up by the right-wing and fascist forces that is leading to heightened attacks on immigrants.”
Alvarez continued, “These policies are racist and criminal. Not only will I put a stop to these policies—I will demand full legalization for all immigrants and make California a sanctuary state! Stop all attacks on immigrants!”
Alvarez is a socialist and a long-time fighter for immigrant rights with the ANSWER Coalition. He has challenged xenophobia and anti-immigrant racism throughout the state. He will continue to fight until all immigrants have full rights.
