Wave of protests rocks Europe

In the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius, 400 protesters illegally gathered to demand that the government end cruel austerity measures such as salary cuts.

In Brussels, 100,000 people, mostly union members, marched on EU buildings.

Greece has been consumed by resistance, including a two-week protest by truck drivers, railway workers walking off the job, and a 24-hour strike by doctors.

A general strike took place in Spain last week, the country’s first since 2002, marking a schism between the once allied unions and social-democratic government.

These demonstrations come at a time when European governments are slashing workers’ salaries, benefits and jobs, all while raising taxes. For example, on top of pay cuts and pro-layoff legislation, unemployment remains at a painful 20 percent in Spain. Greece is also suffering from salary reductions.

All revolutionaries salute the resistance of these workers against the punishment imposed on them by the real culprits of the crisis, the capitalist bankers and their profit-driven system.
