Afghan soldier ‘disloyal’ to British Crown labeled ‘turncoat’

An Afghan soldier killed three British soldiers during the
night in southern Afghanistan on July 13. The soldier, labeled as a turncoat
and a betrayer by the Western media and government officials, appeared to be a
militant opposing the occupation of Afghanistan by British and American
military forces.

This is the second instance of an Afghan soldier killing
British troops in the last year. The first time this occurred was in November
when a member of the Afghan police force killed British soldiers at a
checkpoint.

Hamid Karzai, the president of Afghanistan, sent a letter of
apology to British government officials. He vowed to find the attacker and prosecute
him. British Prime Minister David Cameron condemned the killing but insisted
that the military still work with the Afghan army.

British and American military officials ignore the mass
killing of Afghan civilians , yet an Afghan fighting for his country’s
self-determination is a “turncoat” for not being loyal to imperialism? This
event highlights the hypocrisy of occupation.
