Over 12 U.S. and Israeli warships, including an aircraft carrier, are moving towards the Red Sea, the most direct route to the Persian Gulf from the Mediterranean. This threatening act by the United States and Israel against Iran comes only weeks after the most recent round of sanctions against the nation. The goal of these recent sanctions and now threatening action by Washington and its number one client state in the region is to isolate and threaten Iran, which remains independent of U.S. and other imperialist interests in the region.
The United States and its imperialist allies continue to threaten Iran under the guise of stopping nuclear proliferation around the world and bringing stability to the region. Yet they purposefully ignore the fact that the only nation in the Middle East that possesses nuclear weapons is Israel. The United States itself has the largest stockpile of nuclear weapons in the world.
In response to the latest threatening action, the Iranian Defense Minister, Ahmad Vahidi, stated, “Americans have said they will use all options against Iran, we announce that we will use all options to defend ourselves.”
