Powerful immigrant rights movement stirs again

On March 21, hundreds of thousands of immigrants and
their supporters rallied on the National Mall in Washington,
D.C., to demand legalization of undocumented workers. The crowd joined in a wave of raucous chants of “Si, Se
Puede!” and “Out of the Shadows, Into the Streets!” Volunteers
from the ANSWER Coalition took part in the event,
distributing signs and gathering petitions demanding full
rights and immediate legalization.

The PSL issued the following statement to the rally in both
English and Spanish.

The Party for Socialism and Liberation proudly
stands alongside our immigrant sisters and brothers—
documented or not. It is time to revive the
mass immigrant rights movement that stormed
the country in 2006!

The last year has not brought the “change” to immigrant
communities that the Democrats promised. Rather,
both they and the Republicans have kept on with the
same policies of denying immigrants health care, blaming
immigrants for the problems that capitalism creates
and carrying out cruel ICE raids across the country.

Immigrant workers deserve amnesty and full equality
in wages, jobs, voting, union rights, benefits, housing,
health care and education. The terroristic ICE
raids and the separations of families in detention centers
must come to an immediate end. Full rights for
immigrant workers is in the interest of all workers. The
bosses are trying to drive down wages by pitting immigrant
workers against U.S.-born workers. The PSL says:
There are no borders in the workers’ struggle for justice.
Let’s unite!
