During the Party for Socialism and Liberation’s 2008 presdiential; campaign, Frances was on the streets documenting cases of police brutality in our communities in an attempt to organize a movement to fight back against police terror—the reality of oppression that continues under capitalism no matter who is president.
She has been in the streets for Sean Bell. She has helped draw attention to the police killing of Kenny Lazo in Long Island. (Read an interview with Jennifer Gonzalez on the killing of her son’s father, Kenny Lazo by Suffolk County Police Officers. Liberation Newspaper, April, 2009.)
The Frances Villar for Mayor Campaign is calling for an immediate end to police terror in poor, working-class, Black and Brown neighborhoods across NYC!
-Check out this article from Frances Villar “Racist ‘war on drugs’ escalates nationally” published June 2008.
-Also read a brief report by Frances from a PSL street demonstration against the NYPD’s violent attack of a group of protesters that included PSL volunteers.
In her campaign launch speech Frances vowed that “the first thing I would do in office is to make sure Ray Kelly [NYPD Commissioner] is under lock and key to stand trial for the police killings that are taking place on his watch.”
This is no empty promise! The working people of NYC demand an end to police brutality and the Frances Villar for Mayor campaign stands firmly with the people against the Billionaires and the NYPD!
Frances Villar’s campaign in the news
We are happy to announce that the press coverage on the PSL’s Frances Villar for Mayor campaign continues to gain traction!
Frances was interviewed by Alejandra Soto of Pura Politica and NY1 Noticias on July 24, interviewed Frances Villar, on her plans for the city as a socialist candidate.

Why Frances Villar is running for Mayor…
“We need a mass movement for justice!” –Jewels Randolph Dickerson
Jewels Randolph Dickerson is a working mother from the Bronx. She decided to find out more about the Frances for Mayor campaign because of its clear position against police brutality.
“We need more schools and more jobs! They don’t put the same money into education as they do into big facilities like Rikers. If our children had more access to education, they wouldn’t be as incarcerated. In the youth detention you have 12 – 18 year olds who need to be in school not in prison.
“Someone like Frances who is poor and has faced injustices should run for mayor because we need someone from our community that actually does know what is going on. And if you are not in the community, you don’t know what we need.”
