Hrizi made the following statement at an Oct. 25 street meeting opposing the raids.
“The aim of these raids is to terrorize and isolate immigrant families who have been forced to come to this country in search of work. As a result of the foreign policy of the United States, as embodied by NAFTA and CAFTA, local domestic economies have destroyed, leaving workers without any means to provide for themselves and their families.
“In Mexico, for example, corn production has all but disappeared as a result of U.S. agribusinesses flooding the Mexican market and driving out local growers. These raids are also aimed at fomenting racism by shifting the responsibility for the economic crisis those really responsible for the loss of jobs—the bankers and corporate owners—and onto the backs of the immigrants who are greatly affected by this crisis.”
“I demand the immediate cessation to all raids by ICE against immigrant communities across the country. Instead of criminalizing people for trying to provide for their families, I call for full rights for all immigrants, including the right to a driver’s license, the right to vote and the right to social services.
“The real criminals are the corporations and their bought politicians that ensure super-exploit of immigrant workers and the accumulation of super-profits. The CEOs and board of directors of corporate America are the ones who should be arrested and detained for destroying families in the interest of profit.”
