On June 27, approximately 20 Minutemen converged for a day-long “protest” in front of a local day-laborer gathering-site in Aurora, Colo.
The racist Minutemen claim immigrant workers steal U.S. jobs. They are backing an anti-immigrant piece of legislation proposed by the Aurora City Council. If passed, the legislation will restrict the locations of day-labor assistance offices and impose limitations on day-laborer gathering sites. Many immigrants depend on the offices and gathering sites to make a living.
Washington aggressively imposes neoliberal “free trade” agreements on oppressed nations worldwide. Local economies are wrecked as U.S. companies flood the market with cheap, often subsidized products. Many working-class victims of this economic devastation come to the U.S. in search of work.
Racist groups like the Minutemen divide workers by blaming our immigrant sisters and brothers for the economic woes brought about by the capitalist class’s relentless drive for greater profits.
