Abu Ghraib detainees sue U.S. contractors

Four Iraqis who were held prisoner and tortured at Abu Ghraib in 2003 and 2004 are suing two U.S. military contractors and their employees.

The men, who were released from the infamous prison without ever being charged, have filed separate lawsuits in four U.S. courts.

Security and interrogation contractor CACI International, one of the companies being sued, has denied the claims, saying that the former prisoners are liars and their torture claims are “absurd.”

CACI, which may be more correctly described as a mercenary contractor, is the one lying. Photographs exposing the Abu Ghraib atrocities became public in 2004 and soldiers have continued to testify that torture is routine in Iraqi prisons.

Private mercenary contractors like CACI have tens of thousands of employees in Iraq. Currently, all U.S. military contractors have immunity in Iraqi courts.
