On June 16, pro-imperialist Human Rights Watch called on the European Union to more forcefully pursue arrest warrants for Sudanese State Minister for Humanitarian Affairs Ahmed Haroun and Ali Kosheib, who fought in the civil war.
The call came the day after the U.N. Security Council, at the behest of the Bush Administration, demanded that Sudan arrest Haroun and Kosheib on charges of “crimes against humanity.” The U.S. government, the Security Council and other imperialist forces accuse Sudan of genocide against the people of Darfur.
In their massive campaign to demonize and impose economic sanctions against the country, the Bush Administration and the corporate media mischaracterize the civil war in Sudan as genocide. Washington’s real aim is to end Sudanese independent economic development in order to control the country and its vast oil resources.
