On Feb.22, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced new fortifications to the repressive apparatus at the U.S.-Mexico border. Boeing Corp. has completed a $20 million virtual border fence, known as Project 28, using sensor towers and high-tech telecommunications equipment.
The department has also acquired a new unmanned aerial patrol vehicle and plans to get two more. They are increasing the number of radar surveillance systems from six to 40 this year.
The U.S. ruling class seeks to impose its economic agenda of free trade across the world—exploitation heedless of national borders. Yet it spends billions of dollars constantly increasing repression aimed at workers forced to cross borders by the disastrous effects of free trade.
