PSL to launch election campaign in Chicago

On Feb. 16 at 6 p.m., the Party for Socialism and Liberation will host a meeting to kickoff its election campaign in Chicago. Heather Benno and John Beacham—PSL candidates for Illinois State Assembly—will be speaking.

The candidates will be addressing the meeting followed by discussion and dinner with the candidates and members of the Chicago branch of the PSL.

Benno is an Iraqi American anti-war organizer who is running for State Assembly in the 40th District in Chicago. Beacham is a volunteer organizer with the ANSWER Coalition (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism) in Chicago. He is running for State Assembly in the 14th District.

The PSL is a revolutionary socialist party that fielding candidates for national and local offices in the United States. The party has held or plans to hold launch campaign meetings in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Washington, D.C., Miami, Seattle and many other cities.

When asked what’s different about the PSL’s election campaign Beacham replied, “Our campaign will provide a true alternative for workers. We are involved in all the struggles of the working class and rooted in fundamental working-class interests: peace, not war; jobs and people’s needs; equal rights for all; and socialism. We want to speak to the tens of millions of working-class and oppressed people who desire real change but will not get it through the capitalist electoral process. We want to use the election to fight against the system and spread the ideas of revolution, of true change.”

At the Chicago meeting, Benno will present a talk titled, “We need revolutionary change in Illinois, Chicago and Albany Park.” Beacham will talk about the party’s national election campaign: “Socialism! People over profits!”

Important information about how to get involved with the PSL in the election campaign will be available at the meeting.

The meeting will be held at PSL’s Election Campaign Headquarters in Chicago at 3334 W. Lawrence #202. More information can be found by calling 773-920-7590 or going to VotePSL.org.
