House passes bill criminalizing political action

In October, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the “Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007” by a whopping 404 to 6 margin.

The bill proposes an expansion of the Homeland Security Act by legalizing espionage against people in the United States who oppose U.S. foreign or domestic policy.

Its main author was Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.), an outspoken torture apologist.

The bill calls for the creation of a federal task-force to prevent “violent radicalization and ideologically based violence.”

Its vague language defines “terrorism” as “the use, planned use, or threatened use, of force or violence by a group or individual born, raised, or based and operating primarily within the United States … in furtherance of political or social objectives.”

The bill’s most immediate targets are Arabs and Muslims, but it could be used to criminalize nearly any act of political dissent in this country. Preserving the capitalist system that is getting more outmoded and untenable with each passing day is in the interests of the politicians in Congress.
