Public outcry sparked an inquiry over tasers in Canada after a Polish immigrant was killed at an airport only 46 seconds after police arrived.
Robert Dziekanski became agitated when he could not find his mother after a 10-hour immigration delay. In a video of the incident, passengers could be heard shouting to the police that Mr. Dziekanski could not understand English. Witnesses said the police were under no danger when they fired the taser twice.
Tasers are falsely portrayed as non-lethal weapons to curb public opinion against excessive use of force by the police, who do not hesitate to use them freely. Eighteen people have been killed by tasers in Canada since 2003, as well as 280 in the United States since 2001.
