Community outrage stopped a Los Angeles Police Department attempt to identify and “map” the Muslim community in the area.
The LAPD claimed that the mapping plan served a dual purpose: a way to discover potential “extremists,” and also “to bring together the department with the Muslim community.” Both claims are lies.
The mapping plan was yet another attempt to harass and repress the Muslim community. The majority of Muslims in Los Angeles County are Arabs. Many others are Asian and African Americans. Because of the mass community outrage at the plan, the LAPD was forced to scrap it.
