Dor Alon, the Israeli energy company that supplies fuel to Gaza, confirmed it was ordered to reduce shipments by the Israeli Defense Ministry. The cuts reduced shipments by more than 30 percent on the first day, according to Ahmed Ali, deputy director of Gaza’s Petroleum Authority.
Gaza keeps about four days of fuel in reserve, yet truck drivers are already unable to fill their tankers. The fuel supply reduction will compound the suffering from electricity cuts imposed by Israel.
Israeli Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilnaihas cynically claimed that the anti-Hamas blockade is meant to reduce Gaza’s “dependency” on Israel. In fact, Israel, the colonizing power, controls everything that enters or leaves Gaza and has effectively denied Palestinian sovereignty over fuel, electricity and other vital services.
