Democratic candidates admit they won’t end Iraq war

The Democratic Party is not anti-war. Along with the Republican Party, it represents the interests of the U.S. capitalist

class.

This was proven once again when the leading Democratic White House hopefuls refused to state how or when they would end the Iraq war.

At a Sept. 26 debate at Dartmouth College, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards spoke about reducing the number of troops and combat missions and redeploying different types of armed forces. All of their comments focused on strategies for prolonging the occupation, albeit in a different form.

Clinton, Obama and Edwards expressly refused to answer whether they would end the occupation before 2013—the same position held by Republican candidates.

In seeking to be the next president, each of the top Democratic presidential candidates will not break with interests of the capitalist class. They only try to package their positions to appeal to the masses of people who overwhelmingly want the war to end.

The U.S. ruling class and its representatives, including the leading Democrats, are united in their intention to dominate and exploit Iraq and the Middle East. This will not change in the 2008 election cycle.
