On Jan. 1, hundreds of anti-war activists gathered in downtown Seattle for a vigil to commemorate and protest the
milestone of 3,000 confirmed U.S. deaths in the Iraq war.

The demonstration, which also mourned the loss of more than 655,000 Iraqi lives, was sponsored by Veterans for Peace #92. Significant logistical support was provided by ANSWER Seattle.
Protesters gathered on Westlake plaza and then fanned out single file on sidewalks throughout the area, covering several blocks in all directions. Some demonstrators lay down on the sidewalk in a symbolic “die-in.”
