More than 70 people demonstrated in downtown New Haven at a 5 p.m., July 19, emergency protest to “Stop the War on Palestine, Lebanon and Iraq.” The ANSWER Coalition (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism) participated as one of many sponsoring groups.
People with anti-war signs lined the streets of the town’s busiest downtown intersection. Workers leaving surrounding office buildings heard many spirited chants at the rally, including “Free Palestine, stop bombing Lebanon”; “Gaza, Gaza, don’t cry, Palestine will never die”; and “Occupation is a crime, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine!” Some workers joined the action.
Many families with children were present carrying Lebanese and Palestinian flags.
Protesters enthusiastically took materials mobilizing for the Aug. 12 National Emergency March in Washington, D.C., to defend the people of Palestine and Lebanon. After the rally, protesters marched to the downtown military recruiting office.
